The pursuit of educational excellence is inseparable from the well-being, motivation, and satisfaction of educators. Throughout my academic journey as a teacher, researcher, and management scholar, I have observed that faculty members constitute the backbone of every educational institution. Their professional satisfaction not only influences their own performance and commitment but also significantly affects student learning outcomes, institutional effectiveness, and the overall quality of education.
This book, Understanding Job Satisfaction: An Organizational Behaviour Perspective on Higher Secondary Faculty, is the outcome of my doctoral research and years of academic inquiry into the factors that shape faculty satisfaction within educational institutions. The work was undertaken with the objective of exploring the complex relationship between organizational practices, workplace conditions, professional expectations, and the personal experiences of educators working in self-financing higher educational institutions. The book presents a comprehensive examination of job satisfaction from the perspective of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management.
It explores the theoretical foundations of job satisfaction, reviews major motivational and behavioural theories, and investigates the influence of workplace environment, leadership, organizational culture, compensation systems, professional development opportunities, work-life balance, and institutional support mechanisms on faculty satisfaction.
One of the major strengths of this work lies in its empirical foundation. The study is based on systematic field research involving faculty members from self-financing educational institutions. Scientific research methodology, statistical tools, and hypothesis testing techniques have been employed to identify the key determinants of job satisfaction and to understand how demographic, organizational, and professional variables influence faculty perceptions and workplace experiences. The findings presented in this book reveal that faculty satisfaction is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by both tangible and intangible factors. Issues such as recognition, job security, career growth, workload distribution, organizational commitment, emotional well-being, and supportive leadership emerge as critical elements in creating productive academic environments.
The study further demonstrates that satisfied faculty members contribute significantly to institutional growth, student development, and educational quality enhancement. This book is intended to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, academicians, educational administrators, policymakers, doctoral scholars, and students of management and education. It offers both theoretical insights and practical recommendations that may assist institutions in designing policies and practices that promote faculty well-being and organizational effectiveness.
I sincerely hope that this work contributes to the growing body of knowledge on job satisfaction and encourages meaningful discussions on creating supportive, equitable, and professionally fulfilling environments for educators. If the findings and recommendations presented in this book help even a small number of institutions improve the working lives of their faculty members, the purpose of this research will have been meaningfully fulfilled.
